Great lesson. Can we ask questions? I made an observation the other day working on trailer loading. Not sure how to correct but I am working on it. I am petrified of hauling - sweaty palms the day before. Just so afraid of an accident/issue/something. She loads awesome when I am just loading/unloading in the trailer. As soon as I am planning on taking her somewhere, even just to my place 5 miles down the road, I panic. I have hauled all my life and this has been the case always. After watching you, and the trailer training, it really clicked that my fear is WAY too exaggerated and I need to really work on that. Any hints? P.S. I might try rescue remedy, that is what I use to compete.

You can certainly ask questions Elise!

That is an excellent observation you made about your impact on the trailer loading experience. Do you ever take the truck and trailer for a drive without a horse in it? That is where I would start. Similar to how we need to take apart all the pieces and work on them one by one with our horses to build their confidence, it is the same with us. So if you jump straight to pulling the trailer with your horse in it when you already know you have anxiety about driving it in general, it is much more challenging to overcome. If you start by just pulling the trailer on short trips then you will become more comfortable with that and it will be an incremental change to have your horse in the trailer.

Thank you! I have hauled that trailer all over the country and never had an issue. I am excellent at trailer hauling, backing, and I practice for having a horse in it every time before I load. It is just having that precious cargo in the trailer that freaks me out........At least now where I am hauling, it is all 2 lane country roads and mostly farmers so hauling around here may help me out. No 8 lane highways to have to haul on anymore. Los Angeles and San Diego traumatized me hauling! People cutting me off, driving 2 inches from my back bumper, zipping past other traffic and zipping in front or behind me. I never feel any anxiety at all unless there is a horse in the box. I wonder if I should get a horse van instead of a trailer, I wonder if that would be better. I think I will try some rescue remedy first.....LOL
